Congrats Ate Nelly

by admin | February 18, 2008 | In Updates No Comments

I want to congratulate my office mate, Nelly for completing the course at UP Information Technology Training Center. Her course was Basic Web Development the course range from Basic HTML, Advance HTML, CSS and Javascript. Though she doesnt have any prior experience in web technologies, she was a complete newbie, but she completed it as the top of the class.

Having her work validated thru compliant standard code and render on different browsers, that has been a plus on her work. You can see her first work at http://doxiepet.freehostia.com/ . Not too fancy design isnt it but her teacher emphasizes more grades on the code besides it's web development not web design principle course. :) By the way her teacher is Regnard Raquedan.

Again congrats Ate Nelly.

Ordinary day

by admin | February 15, 2008 | In Updates No Comments

Four days to go before one of my domains expired, if i wont get a paypal by this weekend, I think I need to go to my bank and deposit money to my EON account.

I just finished the report on average class size per unit, I first submitted it last week though there are some problems on my report pointed out by my supervisor. The average class size is verified thru the number of students per unit. Thus a given subject cannot be greater than the number of students enrolled on a particular unit. I dont have time to write a script for it so I verified it manually. After this I would update the academic management system which has MS Access as frontend and MS SQL Server 2003 as the backend data.

On my freelance time, as usual been swamped by work and the daily routine is back to 2 hours of sleep at night, I do sleep during lunch breaks. I have 4 sites to work on, the task range from PSD slicing, CSS coding, integrating javascript, script maintenance and script debug. I do have a recent request to update AWS3 to AWS4.

Photoshop Extracting Image

by admin | February 4, 2008 | In Updates No Comments

It's been a very busy weekend as I am debugging my authentication class in php, during my breaks I find time to relax improving my photoshop skills. I found out that there are two ways to extract a photo image using photoshop. One method is to use the Filter->Extract tool and the other method is to use path. I find the path method more precise and clean. Here is a sample image that I've practiced using the path tool.

Also updated Caju's pic on my header.

Last night when I was coding and adding up more classes to a CMS project, It's a rewrite to an existing one and both of my partner agreed we would use the existing class code,
I have a hint that the database class was based on phpLib class, to my dissapointment it really is. The issue there is phpLib is not an updated project and the trend now is to use an existing framework, not just classes but a framework, I repeat a framework, LOL. I heard really good things about CakePHP it based on MVC, so I tried it. Damn it was soooo gooood and glad that the project license was an MIT one.

It really is neat, having found a good framework and also found a neat PHP editor. The PHP Editor am talking about is Rapid PHP 2007, hmmp, coincidence isnt it. More of it to come as am really into coding right now.

I've first heard the news from PHUG forum, it was a link to my beloved money making forum PMT. It's very good news indeed , I immediately opened up my paypal account clicked the withdraw link.

Then I clicked the withdraw funds from your local bank.

Damn, I dont know the 9 digit bank code, hopefully on the following days my bank would shed a light on this.

Maybe a cure for dengue

by admin | January 24, 2008 | In Updates No Comments

Got this one from a forwarded email.. got me interested because dengue is really a threat if you have small kids.

Cure for dengue?
By Bernardo Rocha Calibo
Director, National Police Commission 7

THERE is hope that the dengue scourge will be obliterated. I was in a
meeting in Manila recently with other Napolcom officials. While waiting for
my flight back to Cebu, I happened to talk with friends. The conversation
eventually turned to dengue. Some of their statements shocked me. I called
up the persons concerned and they confirmed these revelations.

Computer technician Wenceslao Salesale Jr., 27, was downed by dengue. His
platelet count plunged from 180 to 80. He was rushed by ambulance from
Novaliches to Manila. Inside the ambulance, a relative, acting upon the
advice of a missionary priest, made him drink soup made from camote tops.
The following day, his platelet count became normal.

Dengue attacked the 7-year-old daughter of engineers Mar and Lita Budlongan
of Kaloocan City. Her platelet count read 80. The same treatment was used.
The following day she was back to normal.

The 15-year-old daughter of businessman Nepomuceno Salaga of Sampaloc,
Manila had a dangerous platelet count of 80 due to dengue. The same
treatment was followed. The following day she was back in school.

I asked a doctor of medicine about herbal cures and he said that many, if
not most, medicines come from plants. He also said that under the
Hippocratic Oath, doctors are bound encourage anything that can cure a
patient.

Research

We need not do research deep in the rainforests of the Amazon or venture
into the ocean depths in search of the elusive cure for dengue. It is right
there in the backyard.

The following information is from Wikipedia:

"In 1992, the Center for Science in the Public Interest compared the
nutritional value of sweet potatoes to other vegetables. Considering fiber
content, complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins A and C, iron and
calcium, the sweet potato ranked highest in nutritional value. According to
these criteria, sweet potatoes earned 184 points, 100 points over the next
on the list, the common potato (NCSPC)."
"?Sweet potato tops are excellent sources of antioxidative compounds,
mainly polyphenolics, which may protect the human body from oxidative
stress that is associated with many diseases including cancer and
cardiovascular diseases. Sweet potato greens have the highest content of
total polyphenolics among other commercial vegetables studied.

"Sweet potatoes contain protein, dietary fiber, lipid, and essential
minerals and nutrients such as calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, sodium,
potassium, sulfur, iron, copper, zinc, manganese, aluminum and boron. Sweet
potatoes are also important sources of vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin,
niacin and ascorbic acid."

Camote

In the case of Salaga, he bought five sheaves (bugkos/ bigkis) of camote
cuttings. Each sheaf consists of about 12 cuttings. Each cutting measures
about one foot. A sheaf costs about P5.

Camote tops are boiled in water to extract the juice. The boiling lasts for
about five minutes. A little salt is used to give flavor to it. The patient
is made to drink slowly and gradually. The body's immunity system is thus
revived, making dengue helpless against the body's natural defenses. Camote
enables the body to heal itself.

Now you know why I earlier said that my friends' revelations shocked me.
They were shocking because people are needlessly dying all around us from
dengue, while their very cure is also all around us.

In the past, many were fond of using the derogatory statement, "Go home and
plant camote."

Now, camote is big news. It can save lives. What could be bigger than that?
So, to fortify your family against dengue, "Go home and plant camote!"

(Engr. Lita Budiongan and Mr. Nepomuceno Salaga personally related
to me their experiences with their respective daughters. I asked their
permission to use their names.)

I AM NOT SLEEPY

by admin | January 22, 2008 | In Updates No Comments

Is it just circumstance or what, While working at UP System Budget Office, I felt so sleepy when my boss is around and felt awake when she stepped out of the office. I have been drinking coffee while working, I have tried black coffee and to my dissapointment still very sleepy ( to the extent that my hands are already shaking ). I've got memo'ed last week for fallen asleep while working, actually though it's my second memo since last 2 years. Those where the times when my kids are just babies and need to tend to them at night. The latest, which would I expect it will come soon due to the fact that I worked as a freelancer at night. My wife is 3 months pregnant need to raise some funds for our new baby. My co-worker, Jasmin told me a simple lame excuse, she said "You are sleepy when your boss is around because your doing your work, when shes not around your doing nothing." :D , LOL.

Actually would finished all the reports by the end of the day, just need a confirmation from the data that I requested from UP Los Baños yesterday. During breaks reviewed some simple subjects in Computer Programming which my favorite part is data structures. Created a set class in php today, I am practicing phpDocumentor syntax, documented a little bit.

  1. <?php
  2. /**
  3. * @author Carey R. Dayrit <carey.dayrit.org>
  4. * @version 1.0
  5. * @package clsSet
  6. * @uses Group of data that is sorted, no data would be repeated
  7. */
  8. /**
  9. * A simple class implementation of a Set object
  10. *
  11. * Example:
  12. * <code>
  13. * <?php
  14. * $oSet=new clsSet();
  15. * $oSet->insert('pogi');
  16. * $oSet->insert('carey');
  17. * $oSet->insert('pogi');
  18. * echo $oSet->length();
  19. * ?>
  20. * </code>
  21. */
  22. $oSet=new clsSet();
  23. $oSet->insert('pogi');
  24. $oSet->insert('carey');
  25. echo $oSet->length();
  26. class clsSet {
  27. /**
  28. * @var array $mData the repository of data
  29. */
  30. var $mData = array();
  31. /**
  32. * Insert mixed data to the set
  33. * @return bool $bResult
  34. * @param mixed $mSingleData
  35. */
  36. function insert($mSingleData) {
  37. $bResult = false;
  38. if (!in_array($mSingleData, $this->mData)) {
  39. array_push($this->mData, $mSingleData);
  40. sort($this->mData);
  41. $bResult = true;
  42. }
  43. return $bResult;
  44. }
  45. /**
  46. * Returns the length of the set
  47. * @return int $nResult
  48. */
  49. function length(){
  50. $nResult=& count($this->mData);
  51. return $nResult;
  52. }
  53.
  54. }
  55. ?>

Nothing too serious

by admin | January 21, 2008 | In Updates No Comments

Called UP Los Baños about the discripancy of data on the actual enrolled units, Mrs. Cecille Cabardo replied that she submitted data prior to August submission. She will forward again the said reports via their messenger, UP Los Baños has experiencing technical problems in regards to their Internet connection well that explains why their e-mails keep bouncing back since last week.

As am preparing the Data for Los Baños CHED reports, I am modifying the PHP class which I use to query several MS Access. Also added some custom snippets to Rapid PHP which are phpDocumentor related. Here are some of them:

  1. <?php
  2. /**
  3. * @author Carey R. Dayrit <carey.dayrit.org>
  4. * @version
  5. * @package
  6. * @uses
  7. */
  8.
  9. class clsTest
  10. {
  11.
  12. /*
  13. * @var
  14. *
  15. */
  16.
  17. var $mData;
  18.
  19. /*
  20. * @param
  21. * @return
  22. */
  23.
  24. function test(){
  25. ...
  26. }
  27. ?>

Added a code highlighter plugin to wordpress, Isnt that nice ? you can download it here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/code-highlighter/

Smartbro Connection Restored

by admin | January 20, 2008 | In Updates No Comments

Well the wait has been over, I think my ISP has fixed some problems in their system. I just called last two week's regarding some sites which I cannot access through their ISP but normally it is alive, sites like medilert.net, ccg-catalyst.com, enterprisesolved.com, I was assigned to fix some issues for those websites but I turned down some of them. It's kinda hassle because our project manager is expecting it to be fixed as soon as possible.

During the whole Sunday I just slept for about 6 hours during daytime, missed church though, I was so exhausted, I planned to visit my mom because she was sick but didnt have the chance to go. My head was aching.

In the evening, I was so excited about SmartBro fixing the issues, updated 2 sites. Worked on documenting a class for a project.

During the evenings,

Saturday in the house

by admin | January 19, 2008 | In Updates No Comments

It's just a usual Saturday, having time to take some couple of rest been very busy from the past few days. My schedule has been so hectic, have a deadline in the office also doing freelance jobs at night. Just a day to spent time with my wife and kids.

While they are sleeping I just updated the header design of this blog, my photoshop is kinda rusty these days doesn't look to good. I'll edit some images if I would have a free time.

Yesterday, met with Jayson Arcayna, my friend back in the old EDP days at the registrar's office. hes been on computer gigs since he left work. It's nice to have a chat with him although we regularly communicate once in a while using yahoo messenger. It's different when you have talk personally. We chat about the trends in design, hes a great designer he has a great portfolio both mainstream and adult. Ever since he started designing sites he was accustomed using tables but now he is shifting to CSS. DIV's and SPAN's as a matter of fact.

For the beginner I would recommend this book, the sources are updated compared to other books.
